PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY, YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY

The 1st International Conference of the School of Agricultural Technology, Yaba College of Technology, was held from February 3rd to 6th, 2025, at the Epe Campus, Lagos State. The conference, themed “Rethinking Food Production in Nigeria: Sailing Through Insecurity, Economic, and Climate Change Constraints”, brought together researchers, policymakers, industry experts, and academics to deliberate on innovative strategies to enhance food security and agricultural sustainability.



Key Resolutions and Recommendations:

1. Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Participants emphasized the need for increased investment in climate-smart agricultural practices, including the development of drought-resistant crop varieties and precision farming techniques.

2. Food Security and Policy Development: There was a consensus on the necessity for stronger agricultural policies that address food insecurity, promote mechanized farming, and ensure fair market access for farmers.

3. Technological Innovation: Experts highlighted the importance of integrating digital tools, such as AI-driven farming solutions and automated irrigation systems, to optimize food production.

4. Youth and Women Empowerment: The conference underscored the role of women and young entrepreneurs in the agricultural value chain and called for tailored programs to support their participation in agribusiness.

5. Collaboration and Research Funding: Attendees stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, and academic institutions to fund agricultural research and innovation.

6. Sustainable Soil and Water Management: The adoption of soil and water conservation techniques was recommended to mitigate the effects of climate change and enhance productivity.

7. Food Processing and Value Addition: The need to invest in agro-processing industries to reduce post-harvest losses and improve the value chain for agricultural products was highlighted.
