Nnamdi Ezeigbo Charges Yabatech And Others To Imbibe E-learning

The Managing Director of Slot System Limited and the founder of Slot Foundation, Engr. Nnamdi Ezeigbo has charged Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria to imbibe the culture of e-learning for limitless expansion, and to provide accessible education for all.
The founding partner of Techno and Infinix made this known recently at the second research and development public lecture of Yabatech titled “Disruptive Innovation and Sustainable Entrepreneurship,” said that Nigeria institutions could exploit e-learning opportunity by increasing the number of their students, which will enable them to showcase what they have.
Ezeigbo, an alumnus of the College disclosed that most traditional institutions in Nigeria are limited because of what they do as a result of space constrain, but due to the flexibility of e-learning, it will make education accessible for everybody at the comfort of their homes, and ability to combine it with their jobs.
“E- Learning is the new currency in terms of how people can acquire university degrees in Nigeria, the only way they can expand and their business can be scalable is to introduce e-learning. There is need for flexibility and convenience, and e- learning will bring that to the table. I want to encourage every traditional university in Nigeria to imbibe the culture of e-learning.”
According to him, institutions should avoid being disruptive through e-learning, when disruption comes it take time to gain ground but overtime it becomes the way to go. People are not really concerned about certificates; it will be about your skills and what you can do. So if institutions have e-learning platforms, people who go through the platforms would be recognized as long as you can do well at the workplace, the certificate acquired via e-learning also allows you for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“That is why those who have gone to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) are doing well. If the regular training is two years, e-learning can take three years because it takes a longer time. This is the only way schools can avoid being disruptive” he charged.
During his welcome address, the Rector of the College, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe hinted that research development is one of the major activities of a technology based institutions like Yabatech, and is a critical factor in the innovation process, without research there will be no innovations and technological advancement. He therefore informed the gathering that the College has been chosen as one of the ten pioneer innovative hub institutions by UNESCO/UNEVOC in the world recently in Bonn, Germany.
“Yabatech as a technology based institution is committed to improving and encouraging research and development activities. This is demonstrated in provision of support to staff to improve on research skills build on knowledge by providing the enabling environment and sponsorship. The College will continue to expand the frontiers of research through sponsorship of conferences, seminars workshops and public lectures. One of the methods to enrich research by this administration is the constitution of the Research and Development Committee of the College. The committee has demonstrated capabilities in fulfilling the objectives for its creation.”
