Vacancy For The Post Of Polytechnic Librarian

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for the vacant position of Polytechnic Librarian in Yaba College of Technology, simply referred to as the “College”.

 

1.   DUTIES

      The Polytechnic Librarian shall be responsible to the Rector for the administration of the Polytechnic Library and the coordination of the library services in the teaching units of the College.

2.   QUALIFICATIONS

      The prospective applicant must hold:

       i.  A good Bachelor’s Degree with Masters in Library Studies/Library Science (MLS) from a recognized institution of higher learning with (15) years cognate experience and registration with a professional library body. Or Ph.D. in Library and Information Science with at least 12 years post qualification cognate experience with evidence of registration with professional library body.

       ii.   Present evidence of Physical and Medical Fitness (from a Government Hospital)

       iii. Be proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) packages like Library Softwares.

       iv.  Present evidence of Community Service

       v.  Possess evidence of sound human relations, professional competence, industrial integrity, efficient management of human and material resources; and

       vi.   Candidate should not be above 59 years of age at the time of application.

       vii.  He/she must have occupied the position of Chief Librarian/Deputy Polytechnic Librarian or their equivalent for a period of not less than five (5) years in a higher institution of learning.

3.   TERMS OF APPOINTMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

     The Polytechnic Librarian 

     a.   shall hold office for a single tenure of five years from the effective date of his/her

           appointment and on such terms and conditions as may be specified in his/her Letter of Appointment

     b.   Whatever the situation, the Polytechnic Librarian shall retire compulsorily

           at the age of 65 years

4.  METHOD OF APPLICATION

     Interested candidates are requested to submit (20) copies of their applications 

     and Curriculum vitae in the following format;

i.    Full names with surname underlined;

ii.   Date of birth;

iii.  State of Origin/Local Government Area;

iv.  Nationality and how acquired;

v.   Marital Status;

vi.  Number and Ages of Children;

vii. Current Postal Address including Telephone Number(s) and E-mail Address(es);

viii. Educational Institutions Attended with dates;

ix.  Academic/professional Qualifications Obtained with Dates;

x.  Membership of Professional Bodies/Associations;

xi. Previous Employer(s) and post(s) Held with Dates;

xii.  Present Employment, Including Status and Salary;

xiii. A statement of strategies for Improving the College Library. 

xiv. Names and addresses of three (3) referees (present or former Employer, Senior Public Servant not below Grade Level 15, former or present lecturers or professional seniors with reasonable knowledge of the applicant) who are to forward Confidential Reports on the Applicant directly to “The Registrar & Secretary to Council, Yaba College of Technology, P.M.B. 2011, Yaba, Lagos”. 

5.   REFEREE’S REPORT

      Referee’s reports should reach the Registrar &Secretary to Council on or before 6 (six) weeks from the date of advertisement.

6.   DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE OF CLAIMS(S)

      Interested applicants must support all their claims of Credentials, Age, Promotions, Appointment, etc. with documentary evidence, and must be ready to support all their claims with documentary evidence and bring along the originals of all such credentials if invited for an interview.

7.   SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

8.   OTHER CONDITIONS

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further information and/or interview; and

The College will not enter into any correspondence with any candidate on its decision as to the eligibility or otherwise of any candidate or as to its eventual/final decision on any application or interview.
