Titilayo Ukabam Bags Ph.d

The Deputy Rector Administration of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) Dr. (Mrs.) Titilayo Adetoun Ukabam, has bagged doctorate degree towards the end of first quarter of this year from the prestigious University of Lagos.
The news of her attainment was received with great joy by the College staff that trooped into her office to congratulate her for getting to the pinnacle of academic accomplishment.
Ukabam is now a Ph.D holder in Estate Management with a flair for Environmental Valuation. In a chat with Yabatech Public Relations Unit officers, she disclosed that the journey was not rosy as it took her eleven years (from 2007-2008 to 2017-2018 academic session) to obtain the certificate.
According to her, she ought to have concluded the programme earlier but due to ASUU strike of 2018, and inadequate hands to supervise Ph.D students, because same supervisor supervises undergraduates, masters, and Ph.D students. The Supervisors have to take care of other academic activities in order to get promotion; the priority is not the Ph.D students, as it does not in any way enhance their promotion.
She noted that the main delay for Ph.D attainment is mostly caused by the supervisor who most often does not have enough time to supervise their students, and their priority is not with the number of Ph.D students they produce, but with the number of publication produced.
The challenges stated by her are internet facilities, because most of the materials are sourced online, mostly the materials downloaded are paid for.”The cost of Ph.D is huge, a non-working Ph.D student will not be able to cope with the cost except the student is on sponsorship”.
The ever smiling Deputy Rector advised academic staff running Ph.D programme to be persistence, doggedness, and determine to finish the programme.
“Ph.D is not a test of intelligence, it is much more than intelligence, it encompasses perseverance, strong determination to pull through despite all odds, and ability to manage your supervisor”
