YABATECH RECEIVES 2025 ICAN CORPORATE MERIT AWARD

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has conferred its Corporate Merit Award on the foremost tertiary institution in Nigeria, Yaba College of Technology.



The Award was presented at the institute's 2025 Award and Dinner Night held at the Monach Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, yesterday.



The rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Engr Ibraheem Abdul, who received the Award from the ICAN Diamond President, Chief Davidson Alaribe expressed his appreciation to the body for organising the Award and Dinner  to celebrate members, associates and organisations who have distinguished themselves in the accounting profession as worthy ambassadors, contributing to the accomplishment of its goals and work hard to uphold the integrity of the institute.



He was elated to the admiration of all when Yaba College of Technology was  uniquely celebrated by the institute at the ceremony and singled out as the most producer of accountants and chartered accountants in Nigeria.



The institution was noted to be the Venue where ICAN first professional examination was conducted and more often than not the college's products in accounting program have always qualified as chartered accountants at undergraduate levels.



The 60th President of ICAN, who was an alumnus of the college while presenting the Corporate Merit Award to the rector said, " my rector, am presenting this Award to you and at the same time receiving it being a product of the college".



The Award is to charged you to do more in the development of accounting and producing quality professionals, he added.



The rector in his acceptance of the Award stated that the college is humbled by the Award and promised to do more in contributing towards the development of the accounting profession in Nigeria and the community at large.



The glitz and razzmatazz of the Award in Corporate category was witnessed by the first indigenous Rector of the college and first Registrar cum Chief Executive Officer of ICAN, Pa George Majekodunmi Okufi, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara and Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, who received an Award on behalf of the State Governor.



Babcock University”s President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Ademola Tayo was also presented a distinguished service ICAN Merit Award amongst others.



Yaba College of Technology which has been transformed to a Federal University of Technical and Vocational Studies will soon began operation after the national assembly would have completed the enactment of the enabling law for its take off and revoking the existing act of her establishment. The Bill has past the second reading at the Senate House of Assembly.
