SON OF THE SOIL: OLOTA LEADS THE OTA COMMUNITY TO WELCOME DR. ABDUL, THE NEW YABATECH RECTOR

It was a noble home-coming event today, Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the exquisite palace of the Olota of Ota Kingdom, as the people of the ancient Ota, Awori Kingdom, received their son, Dr. Abdul Adedotun, who has just been appointed as the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH.

Receiving the rector was the Paramount Ruler of the ancient Ota Kingdom, HRM Oba (Prof) Abdul Kabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, the four quarters monarchs, the Olota-in-Council, elders, and members of the Ota community.

In his remarks, the Olota of Ota welcomed the rector, his family, and friends to the palace. He appreciates the new rector for flying the kite high, averring that Dr. Abdul is a committed son of Ota land, and believes that the least the people of Ota can do on the home front to motivate and appreciate his good ambassadorship is to identify with him and celebrate his huge success.

HRM Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege urged the rector to continue to operate within the parameters that made him the perfect choice for the job. The federal government must have been inundated with many other choices, but Dr. Abdul’s appointment affirms that he is the super choice, a feat that Kabiesi Olota counseled must be guarded jealously.

The Olota of Ota added that Lagos State and the Ota Kingdom in Ogun State are both lands of the Awori people but only delineated by artificial boundaries. Therefore, he appealed that the administration of Yaba College of Technology and Lagos State Polytechnic (acknowledging the presence of its rector, who is also an Awori), must be engaged with a dual obligation as assets of the government on Awori Land.

Dr. Abdul, who could barely contain his emotion, appreciated the rousing welcome gestured to him by his kindred. The Rector, who came along with a team of family and friends, thanked the gathering for receiving him and reiterated his resolve to be a good ambassador of Ota Kingdom, extending Awori Land. He appealed for continuous guidance, maintaining that he is still a son who will remain open to the words of elders. He said the words of the elders are words of wisdom, and they remain potent as ever and can nip avoidable crises in the bud if integrated as a principle of management.

Continuing, he applauded the efforts of the Ota community to honor him with such a soothing reception, noting that the event will not only serve as a motivation for him to perform valiantly but also a huge challenge to ensure that the symbol and identity of Ota that he carries are not spoiled. He said; “In fact, with this reception, I am now subtly charged, by my kindred, to promote excellence, advancement, and development of YABATECH during my tenure as Rector”.

Dr. Abdul also promises to maintain a robust relationship on the home front. “Although the job at hand is a daunting task for me and requires my utmost attention. Nonetheless, and as it were before, I will continue (and improve) to identify, participate, and add value to the kingdom.” The Rector described the Olota of Ota, HRM Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Obalanlege, as a distinguished father figure. “Kabiesi has proved to me that he is committed not only to seeing the sons and daughters of Ota excel in their chosen careers but also to playing a role in the process. May Almighty God continue to strengthen him”.

The event ended with the presentation of the Omo Iganmode Cultural Festival Magazine to Dr. Abdul and his friends by the Olota of Ota Kingdom, a photography session, the exchanging of pleasantries, and chats on the sidelines. Among those that accompaniedDr. Abdul Adedotun was the Rector of the Lagos State Polytechnic Dr. Nurudeen Olaleye, Barrister Alatise, head of the Alatise family, and the Baale of Ilusata Adashi, Chief. Alatise.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Adedotun is the son of Alhaji Musa Abdul Kareem Alatise from the Ilusata compound in Ota land.
