PRESIDENTIAL TAX REFORMS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN TASKS YABATECH, OTHERS ON COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING, DIGITAL LITERACY

Chairman of Presidential Committee On Tax Reforms, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele has charged Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria to continue to drive competency-based learning, digital literacy, and innovation ecosystems that encourage young people to build, test, fail, and rebuild again.
Prof. Oyedele, an alumnus of Yaba College of Technology was speaking as Chairman of the institution's 37th Convocation

The role of Institutions and Government according to him, is to translate policies into jobs and economic growth, emphasizing the need for tertiary institutions to always produce  problem-solvers not certificate-holders

"We must produce problem-solvers, not certificate-holders"

He also stressed the need for regulatory to create enabling environment for innovations to thrive while government must provide the necessary infrastructure to  encourage  young talented  Nigerians to grow

"Institutions like Yaba College of Technology must therefore continue to drive competency-based learning, digital literacy, and innovation ecosystems that encourage young people to build, test, fail, and rebuild again"
"Government must provide the infrastructure that allows talent to scale from broadband to reliable electricity.
• Industry must partner with academia to create relevant skills"

He urged the stakeholders  to see the convocation lecture as a call to action and not just an academic tradition

The Convocation Chairman then charged the graduating class to always work on their mindset and make good use of skills acquired during their studentship, saying the certificates issued will only open door for them

"Your certificate will open doors, yes - but your skills, your mindset, and your courage will determine how far you go.
This College has given you a foundation. What you build upon it is now your responsibility"

"Do not wait for perfect conditions. Do not be afraid of failure. Every successful entrepreneur you admire today has failed more times than they have succeeded.
You are stepping into a digital world where your smartphone is a workstation, your imagination is a production line, and your competence is your global identity.
National Efforts Supporting Digital Entrepreneurship", he stated

Prof Oyedele encouraged graduating students to key Into various initiatives of Federal Government including "Three Million Technical Talent Programme" which according to him, have been reshaping the talent and innovations of young Nigerians

He commended Guest Speaker and Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele for sharing insights into the Convocation Lecture titled " Entrepreneurship Development In The Digital Age: Leveraging Technology For Job Creation", especially as Nigeria moves from consuming technology to producing it, from exporting talent to attracting value, and from unemployment to innovation-led job growth.
Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr.(Engr.) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul described the theme "Entrepreneurship Development in the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology for Job Creation and Economic Growth,” as both timely and profoundly strategic.

"We meet at a time when digital transformation is redefining global competitiveness, reshaping labour markets, and expanding the frontiers of innovation"

"For us at Yaba College of Technology—now transitioning into a specialized University of Technology and Vocational Training—this theme captures the essence of our evolving mandate. We are not only preparing our graduates for the future of work; we are equipping them to shape it. The digital age demands creators, innovators, and problem-solvers, and today’s conversation challenges all of us to harness emerging technologies for sustainable economic growth", he stated

The Convocation is holding on Thursday, November 20, 2025 inside the college's stadium.
