YABATECH 37TH CONVOCATION LECTURE: THIS IS THE LAST, UNIVERSITY IS ON THE WAY-SENATE LEADER, BAMIDELE

-Rising from the Yaba College of Technology 37th convocation Lecture titled “Entrepreneurship Development in the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology for Job Creation,” delivered by the Majority leader of the Nigerian Senate, Sen (Dr) Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, brought hope, as the Senator assured the College Community of vigorous effort to turn the technological institution to a full blow University. The Lawmaker cum lawyer however stated,  the last convocation the College will have is this 37th  , as very soon the Polytechnic will be a specialized University of Technology and Vocational Training. He therefore advised educators and institutions to modernize their curricula and remove silos, equip students not just with a certificate but with digital competence, an entrepreneurial mindset, and global-market awareness.
On the development of a nation, Bamidele stressed, we must prioritize the best educational curricula from primary to tertiary levels by incorporating the development of technical skills, creative innovation, digital education, problem-solving skills, and the impartation of managerial capacity. All over the world, the Government can’t provide white collar jobs for all young graduate from University Polytechnic, Technical college and other tertiary” so the private sector investment in Nigeria shouldn’t limit their investment in Lagos and Abuja but they should try invest in regional hubs by tapping into talent across the country in other to ensure the growth of the country.
Meanwhile the Rector of the College, Engr  (Dr)  Ibraheem Abdul stated that the convocation Lecture will remain a central tradition of graduation ceremonies, as it is a platform where important national issues are examined.  “We meet at a time when digital transformation is profoundly strategic and redefining global competitiveness, and the digital age demands creators, innovators, and problem solvers. The college is not only preparing our graduates for the future but also equipping them to shape and harness the emerging technologies for sustainable economic growth.”
On his part, Mr.  Taiwo Oyedele, chairman, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, an alumnus of the College, praised the management for sustain standard and  nurturing  students for future prosperity, reiterating that the College has one of the highest rates of chartered accountants in Nigeria. He advised students that a certificate might open a door, but skills will build them. “Learn to be problem solvers, not just certificate holders.” He also spoke about the discrimination against HND students, that anyone who discriminates against people because of certificate will lost a great talent.
