NATIONAL SKILLS QUALIFICATION FRAMEWORK AND SKILLS CERTIFICATION PLAY A PIVOTAL ROLE IN SHAPING THE FUTURE OF OUR WORKFORCE- YABATECH RECTOR

The Rector, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul has declared emphatically that National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and Skills Certification (SC) play a significant role in shaping the future of Nigerian workforce.

He passionately canvassed Yabatech Community to adopt NSQF and Skills Certification in his opening speech during the Sensitization Workshop on NSQF & Skills Certification held at the College recently for the stakeholders of the institution.

Engr. Abdul said that he was honored to address the critical aspect of our nation’s workforce development, and in today’s rapidly evolving world, the demand for a skilled and adaptable workforce have never been more pressing, therefore, it is mandatory that our citizens are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in a dynamic job market.

He disclosed that YABATECH has a rich tradition of excellence in technical and vocational education, making it a fitting venue for the workshop. The goal of the workshop is to foster a comprehensive understanding of NSQF and how it aligns with our education and industry needs.

According to him “I encourage all participants to actively engage in the discussions, share their insights, and ask questions. Your contributions are invaluable as we work together to build a more skilled and prosperous future for Nigeria, and your commitment to education and workforce development is commendable”.

The NBTE South West Director, Elder Ayodele Aroge commended the College for taking the giant stride of NSQF & Skills Certification exercise, and YABATECH leads while others follow.

He noted that National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is all about skill driven, which has mandated all Polytechnic to embrace NSQF, and YABATECH is known for conforming to the NBTE directives.

There were two presentations during the workshop, the first one titled “NIGERIA SKILLS QUALIFICATION FRAMEWORK & SKILLS CERTIFICATION IN YABATECH” by the Manager of Skills Development Centre, Mr. Amos Alade, hinted that The Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) is a system for the development, classification and recognition of skills, knowledge, understanding and competencies acquired by individuals, irrespective of where and how the training or skill was acquired. The system gives a clear statement of what the Learner must know or be able to do; whether the learning took place in a classroom, on-the-job or less formally. The Framework indicates the comparability of different qualifications and how one can progress from one level to another. It is a global standard.

The second presentation titled “QUALITY ASSESSMENT PROCESS IN NSQ (COMPETENCY/SKILLS BASED QUALIFICATION)” by Mr. Otapo Akeem, noted that assessment involves training and supporting learners to achieve or show competence on the learning objectives/performance criteria, and it gives feedback to learners on level of competence for every performance criterion of the learning objective/outcomes.

The two presenters were beneficiaries of the NSQF training which have been duly certified, and qualified to train others.
