Omokungbe Announces Approval Of A New Programme As Yabatech Matriculates 13,127 Students

The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe has announced the approval of a new programme LIBRARY & INFORMATION SCIENCE by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the new programme has commenced with 2020/2021 session.

He made this announcement during the recent matriculation that was held in the institution in which 13,127 students were matriculated into 2020/2021 academic sessions.

Out of the 26, 332 candidates that applied to YABATECH for the 2020/2021 academic session, a total of 13,127 candidates were admitted. 3,142 candidates were admitted into Full Time National Diploma (ND), 2,508 candidates were admitted into Full Time Higher National Diploma (HND), while 6,943 candidates were admitted into both ND and HND Part Time programmes, also 534 candidates were offered admission for the Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme being run in affiliation with University of Nsukka (UNN).

Omokungbe charged the newly admitted students to focus on their academics without neglecting their entrepreneurial and vocational abilities, reminding them that YABATECH is a Technical, Vocational Education and Training Institution and as such, students are taught to be skilled, self-reliant, employer of labour, and employable. He stated that the College is the first higher institution in Nigeria to establish a full-fledged Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), with strong linkages with the world of commerce and industry.

Speaking on discipline in academics, behavior and appearance, he implored the students to be diligent, hardworking and take their studies seriously. He added that they must refrain from all forms of examination misconduct and indecent dressing and must not take laws into their own hands but should rather go through the laid down procedures and channels of communication. He also informed them that 75% lecture attendance is required for participation in examinations.

In his welcome address, he notified the students that it is illegal to operate or belong to a secret society, as it would lead to expulsion and possible criminal prosecution. But rather the College encourages participation in social clubs, students union and sports activities, as the College pride itself as an institution with vibrant sports facilities and sportsmen.

On a final note, the Rector congratulated the matriculating students and appealed to them to remain focus and also ensure they contribute their quota to sustaining the good image of the College.
