CareerLeap Series 1: Industry and Academia Engagement Session

The Centre for Linkages, Partnerships and International Relations (CLPIR) of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), in strategic collaboration with FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, successfully hosted the maiden edition of the CareerLeap

Series
. The engagement session, titled CareerLeap Series 1, aimed to foster enduring partnerships between academia and industry, with a focus on grooming the next generation of industry leaders.

Themed “Fostering Strategic Collaboration between Industry and Educational Institutions to Mould Future Frontrunners,” the event featured high-profile executives and board members from Royal FrieslandCampina, The Netherlands, including:




  • Mr. Jan Derck Van Karnebeek, Chief Executive Officer, Royal FrieslandCampina

  • Mr. Ali Khan, President, FrieslandCampina, Middle East, Pakistan, and Africa

  • Mr. Nils Den Besten, Supervisory Board Member, Royal FrieslandCampina

  • Mr. Wietse Duursma, Supervisory Board Member, Royal FrieslandCampina



The Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Ibraheem A. Abdul, served as both the Chief Host and a distinguished panelist at the session.

Key Objectives:




  • To strengthen the synergy between academic institutions and the private sector

  • To expose students to innovative practices and emerging trends in dairy and food production

  • To promote employability and career readiness through real-world industry engagement

  • To provide information on internship and employment opportunities with FrieslandCampina

  • To encourage knowledge exchange and collaborative research initiatives

Target Audience:

The session was attended by a diverse body of students from all academic programmes of the College — Full-time, Part-time, and those under the College of Open, Distance and Flexible e-Learning (CoDFEL). Academic and administrative staff, as well as stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, were also in attendance.

Conclusion:

The CareerLeap Series 1 marked a pivotal step in YABATECH’s strategic efforts to prepare students for the dynamic demands of the global workforce. The event concluded with a mutual commitment from both FrieslandCampina and Yaba College of Technology to deepen collaboration, drive innovation, and empower students with the tools to become future frontrunners in their respective fields.
