BRIEF PROFILE OF UDUAK I. INYANG-UDOH (DEPUTY RECTOR, ADMINISTRATION)
Uduak I. Inyang – Udoh is the current Deputy Rector (Administration), Yaba College of Technology. He has tremendous versatility and skills in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management. His academic, professional and administrative experiences span over 35 years.
Inyang – Udoh attended Federal Government College, Ilorin, Kwara State, where he made distinction. He is alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly University of Ife) Ile-Ife and that of University of Lagos. He holds Bachelor Degree in Quantity Surveying and Master Degree in Construction Management. He is Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FNIQS) and Registered Quantity Surveyor (RQS) with Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN). He has a number of publications to his credit.
Inyang – Udoh’s working life started at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa State, Nigeria, where he was one of the pioneering staff of the Department of Quantity Surveying. He successfully started and headed the Department as Coordinator for about two years when he left to join the services of Yaba College of Technology in September 1986 as Lecturer II and rose to the position of Chief Lecturer in July 2002.
In Yaba College of Technology, he was appointed Ag. Head of Department in 1996 and served for over four (4) years. He was reappointed Head of Department in 2007 and served for over four (4) years.
In December 2011, he was appointed Dean, School of Environmental Studies where he served for 2 years before his appointment as Director, Academic Planning Unit (APU) of Yaba College Technology where he served for 4 years. He was appointed the College Champion for CommonWealth of Learning (COL), Flexible Skills Development Programme in 2015, where he worked assiduously and initiated the establishment of the Flexible Skills Development Centre (FSDC) in the College.
Until his current appointment, Inyang-Udoh served as the Director of Yabatech Consult Ltd where he made tremendous impact and changed the face of Yabatech Consult within the last 3 years (in spite of overwhelming challenges). He also served the college in various other capacities as chairman and member of over 20 standing and ad hoc committees. He has attended many conferences, seminars, workshops within and outside Nigeria.
In the course of his services, he initiated and played the role of Lead facilitator of collaboration programme and signing of MOU and Agreement between University of Central Lancashire, Preston in UK and Yaba College of Technology, Lagos for some Departments in the college. The collaboration which the College (staff and students) benefited academically. He initiated a move which stopped the merging of Building Technology with Quantity Surveying for the award of ND in Building Technology/Quantity Surveying by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). This move yielded results as the NBTE had to set up a committee, which he served, that recommended separating the two programmes in all polytechnics in the country.
During his tenure as Dean, he developed Mission and Vision statements for the School and worked very hard for its fulfilment. He, with the assistance of private sector, set up School of Environmental Studies Advisory Board (SESPAB) which was intended to be one of the vehicles for realization of the vision of the School. He launched “Operation Good Results” in the School to ensure improvement of students’ results. This yielded positive outcomes with more Distinction grades score by some of our Environmental Studies Students. He also initiated the School’s Annual Conference and continuation of the Annual Lecture of the School where best students and outstanding alumni are rewarded with awards of excellence. He equally attracted some endowment funds to the School which many students are beneficiary already.
While in the Academic Planning Unit he worked very hard for the commencement of about 16 new programmes within 4 years. He initiated the process of data collection and analysis to help Management in some decision making as well as review the curricula of our programmes most of which were outdated. He serves as External Examiner and Assessor and NBTE accreditor to many higher institutions in Nigeria.
Inyang-Udoh has been very active in his profession where he served in some committees of the professional Institute, a member of the Examination Board for about 12 years where he became the Coordinator. He has served as Consultant in quite a number of construction projects within and outside the country.
In recognition of his performance he was given an award for outstanding Performance at Work in Yaba College of Technology in 2009. In July 2012, he received a special letter of commendation from the Rector for his valuable contributions towards development of the School of Environmental Studies in particular and the College in general.
Inyang-Udoh is married and blessed with children.
