DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY
It is my pleasure to welcome our fresh and returning students to the Department of Agricultural Technology, Yaba College of Technology, Epe Campus. It is a great opportunity for you to be a student of agriculture. As a vocational course, considerable emphasis is placed on assisting students to acquire the ability to use the head, hands and other organs of the body for the purpose of living useful and fulfilled lives. Particular attention is devoted to student’s empowerment in terms in acquisition of relevant knowledge, attitudes and practical competencies.
Academic Requirement for admission into National Diploma in Agricultural Technology.
Five O’ level credit passes in SSCE or its equivalent examination which must include English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science/Biology and any one of the followings in not more than 2 sittings: Physics, Economics, Geography, Technical drawing, Food & Nutrition as well as Animal Husbandry/Fisheries.
JAMB combination are English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural science and any other subject from the following; Mathematics, Physics, Economics and Geography.
Academic Requirement for admission into HND Agricultural Extension and
Management, Animal Production Technology and Crop Production Technology
SSCE or its equivalent examination requirements for admission into the ND programme in Agricultural Technology/Animal production/Animal Health/Fisheries/Forestry/Crop Production/Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering.
A minimum of Lower credit pass at ND in Agricultural Technology or any of the above named Agricultural science areas from any NBTE recognized institution and one (1) year post-ND cognate work experience or
A pass at ND Agricultural Technology or any of the above named Agricultural science areas with at least Two (2) years post-ND cognate work experience.
Career prospects for prospective students on the course of study
The National Diploma Programme and Higher National Diploma in Agricultural science courses is designed to produce Agricultural Technicians and Technologist that are capable of applying modern farming techniques in direct agricultural production. After graduation, diplomates are to:
- Assist in planning and laying out all sizes of crop, animal and fish farms.
- Employ modern techniques in the rearing of different types of livestock on large scale.
- Employ modern techniques in land preparation, planting, management and harvesting of food and cash crops.
- Assist in processing and storage of all agricultural produce
- Assist in agricultural extension services.
