YABATECH RECTOR TASKS YOUTH ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The high rate of unemployment and inequalities in our society can only be reduced if the Nigerian youths embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship. This fact was established by the rector of Yaba College of Technolgy Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe during the 2019 World Youth Skills Day organized by Yabatech UNEVOC Center.
Omokungbe who was ably represented by the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Titilayo Ukabam upheld the theme of the event “Innovative Digital Literacy and Entrepreneurial Skills and Development” stressing the need for students and youths to delve into building entrepreneurial skills as the world is evolving.
He said that the unlimited energy and potential of the youth to become successful in all fields of life must be channeled towards possessing skills to solve crucial issues faced by societies across the world.
Members of the Local Organizing Committee headed by Dr. Ifeoma Akeredolu also put together an inter school debate among the Secondary schools around the College axis on the topic “Innovative Digital Literacy and Entrepreneurial Skills Have Led to Success in the 21st Century”, participating schools were: Igbobi College Yaba, Yaba College of Technology Secondary School Yaba, Eletu Odibo Senior Secondary School, Baptist Academy Obanikoro, and Jibowu Junior High School.
The climax of the event was the panel session on the theme of the event which had Mr. Abiodun Taiwo as the lead discussant, Dr. Ibilola Amao, Dr. Abiodun Osiyemi and Engr. Nnamdi Ezeigbo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SLOT Systems as discussants. The panelist were able to deduce the benefits of entrepreneurial skills among the youths of today stating that white collar jobs should be a plan b if entrepreneurial skill fails.
The event also featured the pitching of business plans by some shortlisted candidates who are student’s entrepreneurs, and fantastic prices were won courtesy of the organizers and SLOT System.
