The College Central Research Laboratory was established in
January 2015 after the approval by the College Governing Council in December 2014
as a multidisciplinary laboratory in line with stipulation of the National
Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and United Nations Education and
Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) that modern
Workshops/Laboratories with sophisticated modern tools be made available for
training of students for the intellectual challenges of our time.
The array of equipment
in the CCRL are carefully selected in line with the curriculum for both
National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) for students in
Engineering, Science, Food, Glass & Ceramics, Polymer & Textile
Technology, Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry and Computer Based Test. Furthermore, the equipment are recommend for
Higher Technological Research Tools.
2.0 INFRASTUCTURAL FACILITIESN IN THE
UNITS OF CCRL
The CCRL Unit is fashioned according to the relevance of the
equipment to each other. Therefore, the
CCRL is subdivided to Units of their application. i.e.
Engineering Simulators Laboratory
I & II Laboratories
2.1 INSTRUMENTAL/MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION LABORATORY
This unit is further broken into subunit with the following equipment.
Analytical Unit I
Chromatography - Mass Spectroscopy (GC- MS)
Spectroscopy (LC- MS)
Analytical Unit II
performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
Acid Analyser (AAA)
Analytical Unit III
Absorption Spectrometer (AAS)
Transform Infrared (FTIR)
Material Characterization Unit
Electron Microscope (SEM)
All these equipment have
2.2 GENERAL ENGINEERING
This laboratory houses
all the engineering equipment relevant to mechanical, electrical, civil
engineering programme/research. These
Type Heat Exchanger
these equipment are installed but staffs are yet to be trained on them.
2.3 MECHATRONICS LABORATORY
The laboratory consists
of WALECTRIC mechatronic training equipment.
The technology is composed of MECHA from mechanical and TRONICS from
electronics. With the latest
engineering, generally this unit will be of great use to the industries with
automation engineering / technology. 2.4 MARINE ENGINEERING SIMULATOR LABORATORY
The Marine Engineering
Simulator was installed by Stonegate Golden Heritage Ltd and one of the first
of its kind in the Polytechnic in Nigeria.
The Unit is equipped with the training software (e.g. UR Shop Control;
N/CR10 Controller with embedded Ship Control Software and Modules
2.5 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING SIMULATOR LABORATORY
The Laboratory consists
of Edibon Technical Resources Chemical Engineering - NET System composed of the
Distillation Unit (CDU)
Absorption Column (GAC)
? Liquid Extraction Unit (LLEU)
Extractor Training system (CETS) and
Film Evaporator (RFE)
units have been delivered and the Chemical Engineering Department will find it
very useful for students training.
Other Department such as Food Technology, Polymer & Textile
Technology will find it relevance in their various fields.
