The department came into being in October, 2009 and commenced academic activities with Five (5) academic staff in March 2010 using the old NBTE curriculum with Seventy-four (74) students in the first semester 2009/2010 session at the main campus of the college.

The second semester witnessed the movement of students to Odoragunshin, Epe campus in May 2010. The department commenced the implementation of the new curriculum in 2010/2011 session with a functional library at Michael Otedola Information Technology building while the department took possession of School of Agric. Complex in December, 2011.

The first set of the department graduated in 2011/2012 Session and since graduated four additional sets of ND and one set of HND (Agricultural Extension and Management). Furthermore, grandaunts have gained admission into both HND and B.SC courses in several institutions of higher learning while feedbacks from these institutions confirmed that they are effectively coping well with the school system.

From the record, the gender outlook of the diplomates showed that there is almost a balance of both sexes in terms of admission for the programme. This, we believe if continued will ensure more participation by the female folk in the programme which automatically sends a positive signal to women empowerment in the agricultural industry.

The department had NBTE resources accreditation for HND Agric. Extension & Management programmes in August, 2015 with the first set of students admitted in 2016 for 2015/2016 session. While that of Crop Production Technology & Animal Production Technology came up in May, 2017, while the students were admitted in 2017/2018 session, commencing from April, 2018.

Presently, the department can boast of units with various facilities and equipments including Laboratories, animal production (Livestock, Micro livestock, Piggery, Poultry and Fishery), Crop Production (Arable, Some Tree crops, and Meteorological station), Agric extension studio and departmental library.

However, for ease of administration, the department operates basically on Three (3) units; Agricultural Extension and Management, Crop production Technology and Animal Production Technology.

The vision and mission statement of the department is to establish an academic excellence to become the leading centre of excellence for agricultural education, research and entrepreneurial development in Nigeria. To also produce knowledge and innovative agricultural graduates worthy in skills and character through effective teaching research, entrepreneurial skills and practical exposure towards self-reliance and profitable agricultural practices.

Academic Requirement for admission into National Diploma in Agricultural Technology.
Five O’ level credit passes in SSCE or its equivalent examination which must include English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science/Biology and any one of the followings in not more than 2 sittings: Physics, Economics, Geography, Technical drawing, Food & Nutrition as well as Animal Husbandry/Fisheries.

JAMB combination are English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural science and any other subject from the following; Mathematics, Physics, Economics and Geography.

Academic Requirement for admission into HND Agricultural Extension and Management, Animal Production Technology and Crop Production Technology
SSCE or its equivalent examination requirements for admission into the ND programme in Agricultural Technology/Animal production/Animal Health/Fisheries/Forestry/Crop Production/Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering.

A minimum of Lower credit pass at ND in Agricultural Technology or any of the above named Agricultural science areas from any NBTE recognized institution and one (1) year post-ND cognate work experience or
A pass at ND Agricultural Technology or any of the above named Agricultural science areas with at least Two (2) years post-ND cognate work experience.

Career prospects for prospective student on the course of study.
The National Diploma Programme and Higher National Diploma in Agricultural science courses is designed to produce Agricultural Technicians and Technologist respectively, that are capable of applying modern farming techniques in direct agricultural production.
After graduation diplomates are to:
• Assist in planning and laying out all sizes of crop, animal and fish farms.
• Employ modern techniques in the rearing of different types of livestock on large scale.
• Employ modern techniques in land preparation, planting, management and harvesting of food and cash crops.
• Assist in processing and storage of all agricultural produce
• Assist in agricultural extension services.
